Two Years

Dear Cole,

Happy Birthday, my darling boy.

I'm having a hard time typing this, as tears keep filling up in my eyes!  Two years old!  My little mister, who was the teeny tiny sweet little baby, has grown into a handsome, strong, active, sweet, loving, and tender-hearted little boy.

I'm sure every parent says this, but truly - you are an amazing young man!  You are so bright, knowing over 10 letters already.  You love to read like it's going out of style.  You are so quick to give hugs and kisses and loving pats.  You are shy around people you don't know (like your mama always was).  You like to observe and reflect before taking part in a new experience.  Your smile and huge brown eyes melt the hearts of everyone you see.  You are curious, without being adventurous (no climbing bookshelves or anything yet - whew!).   You are so strong (you are the toughest little guy I've ever met!), but so sensitive at the same time. You are cautious and observant - you are for sure not spontaneous or a risk taker.

You are kind and loving, quick to try to help with a hug or a kiss if someone is upset.  You are intuitive, you pay attention to how people feel and react.  At the same time, you are strong in yourself, not willing to do something you aren't comfortable doing.

You are equally a Mama's and a Daddy's boy - you love us almost as much as we love you!  We have so much fun playing with you and loving on you and taking you places to experience new things.  Your dad, especially, values every second of time he spends with you - you are the first one to get a kiss when he walks in the door from work!

For me, you turning two has seemed to happen so quickly - was it only a year ago we were celebrating your first birthday?  So I've found myself thinking a lot about your future, planning what kind of experiences we want you to have and how we want to shape your education.  I know now how fast you are growing and I want to be prepared!

We don't know yet what amazing things you might do with your life.  Maybe you won't do anything any more extraordinary than get married, have a career you love, raise a family of your own.  But in our minds, you are incredible.
From the very beginning, I felt as though your daddy and I were MEANT to be your parents.  We were waiting just for you.  You are the perfect part of our family that we were anticipating - and you have been so much more fantastic and special and amazing than anyone could have dreamed.  We are so grateful to be a part of your incredible little life.

Happy birthday, dearest one.

We love you more than you will ever know.

Love, Mama and Daddy
